Catrine is short in height and wants to meet someone. She talks with her psychologist, who doesn’t have the time. She watches television. She calls her Mum, and she calls herself.

TO FIX A CHILD - A documentary by Lollo Collmar

On adult eagerness to research, about surgery to remove the feet in order to fit in V-jeans, and a child who finally says no. Lollo Collmar was born with one leg.

”A Danish family in Portugal was a part of the upper class, but when their fortune disappeared like dew before the sun - their luxury lifestyle transformed into a daily struggle to make ends meet. In a small apartment on the outskirts of a city, a little girl is iving with her family. Behind the door of the apartment total hell is hiding. For 15 years, the little girl is sexually abused by her grandfather - who also turns out to be her father. The family, the authorities - everyone knows. But no one takes action. Today she is grown up and memories from childhood grow stronger and stronger. In the end, she cannot defend herself anymore.

In a mansion in Austria, the old countess and her even older servant Moser live together. They both hate each other - yet they cannot stay apart. Moser hates the way the countess always decides, and the countess hates that Moser is always complaining. So it has been for over thirty years. A documentary is nothing without its drama of reality - a drama that can enhance and displace reality. Bengt Bok and Lotta Eriksson, documentary makers and teachers at the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts talk about the documentary as an art form, with students of Radio Production, who also present some of their productions.

New stories told in new ways! For the second consecutive year, Tempo together Sveriges Radio, appoints the best swedish radio documentary.

The three nominees are:

During the festival the tree radio programs will be aired at Victoria. The winner will be presented during the Tempo Award Ceremony on Saturday night.

Come and listen to the newest, most creative, challenging and amazing documentaries. They are all no more than three minutes long. Ten outstanding short radio docs, which each have their Swedish premiere at Tempo Festival. And one of them will win the prize of 5,000 SKR.

Susanne Björkman has devoted herself to documentary narration for nearly three decades. She has shown what time, curiosity and listening means in the quest of what lies just below the surface, but has not yet allowed itself to be formulated in words. Swedish Radio hands out for the second year 35 000 SEK to a documentary maker who works in Susanne Björkman’s spirit. Tempo parts proudly out the second scholarship in Tempo’s gala evening.

We also play back a program of the winner of the Susanne Björkman Scholarship. Come, sit down and listen to great radio. Afterwards follows a conversation between Susanne and the scholarship recipient.

How can one challenge with a story? Not by the content but by the story itself. Radio pupils from Stockholm College of Drama play programs that are not what you think they are. Time is displaced, broken and reformed. Jenny Sunesson, sound artist, living in England and in Sweden, plays parts of her production and talk about challenging storytelling.

Susanne Björkman is one of Sweden’s most prominent radio documentary makers. Sveriges Radio has now established a scholarship of 35 000 kronor for a documentary maker who works in Susanne Björkman’s spirit. Tempo is proud to hand out the first Susanne Björkman-scholarship ever on sataurday night’s Tempo Award Ceremony!
